Built in 1868, is located 4 miles off the mainland and roughly 10 miles from Witz's Marina in Skanee, Michigan.

Look close and you can see the Huron Island Lighthouse and Assistant Keepers Building in the center of the island on its highest point. The dock and the Boathouse can be seen in the small bay on the left side of the island in the center of the picture. A foot path extends from the boat house up to the Lighthouse and then to the Fog Signal Building at the far end of the island.
The Assistant Lighthouse Keepers quarters was used to house the assistant keeper and his family and is located adjacent to the Huron Island Lighthouse.

Evidence of the last ice age exist all over the island in the form of deep grooves scoured into the rock by glaciers that passed over this area tens of thousands of years ago.

Many of the Great Lake lighthouses of old, had trams to bring supplies up from the lake to the lighthouse. The small gauge railroad tram and turnstyle, located on West Huron Island to bring supplies up from Lake Superior, is believed to be the last remaining tram and turnstyle system remaining on the great lakes.
On a return trip from the Huron Islands on August 27th, 2020, we happened upon this Russian sailing vessel between Point Abbaye and the Huron Islands. This ship sailed from Russia up the St. Lawrence Seaway into Lake Superior on its way to Duluth, Minnesota.
