History of the Huron Island Lighthouse
The copper and lumber trade occurring in the area of Keweenaw Bay and Huron Bay along with the need to have continuous navigational lights along the south shore of Lake Superior created the need for a lighthouse located in the Huron Islands.
Location of the Huron Islands
The Huron Islands are located approximately 4 miles off shore from the mouth of the Huron River. They are technically part of Marquette County but the closest marina is actually Witz's Marina in Skanee, Michigan which is Baraga County
